Change Footer Credits

One of the most frequently asked questions when it comes to WordPress themes is ‘how can I change the footer credits?‘ This tutorial is specifically for my amaThambo theme but the same will hold true for most of my themes.

If you have not already done so you need to add a directory called partials to your child theme. You now find the file /partials/dry-footer-credits.php in the parent theme and copy the contents to a new file which you add to the directory you just created. Remember to keep the file name unchanged.

By default the code in this file looks as follows:

 * The code partial for showing the footer credits.
 * @package WordPress
 * @subpackage amaThambo
 * @since 1.0
 * @version 1.0

<div class="site-info darker">
	<p><?php esc_attr_e( 'Powered by', 'amathambo' );?>
	<a href="<?php echo esc_url( 'https://wordpress.org/', 'amathambo' ); ?>">
		/* translators: %s: CMS name, i.e. WordPress. */
		printf( esc_html( '%s', 'amathambo' ), 'WordPress' );
	<br />
	<?php esc_attr_e( 'amaThambo Theme by', 'amathambo' );?>
	<a href="<?php echo esc_url( 'https://arnoldgoodway.com/', 'amathambo' ); ?>">
		/* translators: %s: Author URI */
		printf( esc_html( '%s', 'amathambo' ), 'Arnold Goodway' );
</div><!-- .site-info -->

All you need do now is to change the code to suit your requirements. You can modify the existing code, you can remove code or you can add new code. I would recommend that you DO NOT change the names of any of the classes in the code or you could find that things do not work the way you want them to work.

By default amaThambo has two links in the footer, the one to WordPress and the other to this site. You do not have to keep either of these links, this is your footer now you do whatever you want to do.

If you struggle with the code changes you are more than welcome to come and ask for advice. If you come up with something unique to add in the footer I would love to hear about it.
